Vietnam to increase fine for software piracy
Vietnam is trying hard to fulfill its new World Trade Organization commitments. They are now considering increasing the fines for software piracy in the country.
As of now, the maximum penalty for piracy is 100 million dong which comes to around $6,250. However, the country’s Ministry of Culture and Information is working on a decree that would raise that limit.
Companies using pirated applications could possibly be fined up to five times the value of the software after the new rules are introduced.
Ministry of Culture and Information department director Vu Manh Chu said in a statement on this initiative: “This demonstrates the resolve of the government to crack down on copyright violations as the country deepens its international economic integration.”
