Microsoft starts licensing new software to local firms in China

Software giant Microsoft has said that they are now licensing new software to local firms in China for the first time.

This move somewhat showcases that the company finally has gained some confidence in the China’s economy and their efforts against software piracy in the country.

Microsoft has struck partnerships with Comtech Group in Shenzhen and with Talkweb Information System in Hunan. These plans were confirmed by Microsoft director of intellectual property ventures David Harnett.

These deals were signed under the auspices of the Intellectual Properties Ventures program launched by the company last year.

Harnett added: “The broader perspective is that Microsoft is committed to working with Chinese companies to develop the software economy in China. It allows us to connect with innovative companies that understand customers in China. You will see a lot more of us working with our development centers there. You will see a lot of these products reaching the market through China.”
