Windows Live Mail desktop: Useful if you are a hotmail fan

One of the newer releases from the Microsoft’s Live group is a software application named Windows Live Mail desktop.

It is currently in beta like most other Live products and services. The application is a godsend for people who use Hotmail as their primary mail id.

It acts as a desktop replacement for a web browser running the hotmail account. Good thing is that you can minimize it in your system tray. Bad thing is that the application comes with a huge advertisement banner on the right side.

It comes with support for third party mail services though it failed to work with my Gmail id. I do not use any of the pop accounts so I did not test out that feature.

It also comes with support for RSS feeds. This feature is usable but would not replace Opera as my choice of RSS Feed reader.

One surprising fact is that MSN Messenger has now linked this application with my hotmail account rather than opening the Internet Explorer browser for me. I like the Live Mail interface but an offline application to access my hotmail account is indeed a pretty usable feature.

And if you are a Blogger on Windows Live Spaces, you can also blog using this application to your Live hosted Blog!

It\’s definately got potential, just a few things missing…you know, crucial things, like colums! And a half-way decent Contect list!
