Support for Windows XP SP1 ends

Microsoft has now officially ended their official support for Windows XP Service Pack 1 and SP1a. This means that current users of XP operating system would have to upgrade to Service Pack 2 to get new patches and updates.

As per company’s own guidelines, they guarantee to provide “mainstream support” for a full product for five years. However, they only aim to support a service pack for 12 months after the launch of the next version of that pack. The Service Pack 2 for XP was released to the public in September 2004.

Microsoft is already due to release the next major release of their operating system product Vista early next year. Corporate customers of the company would receive Vista starting next month.

The company also recently ended support for Windows 98 and ME.
