Google Desktop Search for Mac under development?
Google started a new sensation with its launch of Desktop Search tool for windows platform. It has its share of bugs and limitations at this moment, but analysts around the world have praised it and have high hopes for the future. Windows internal search fails miserably on the huge disks available in the market. Although many claims that searching after enabling data indexing (a feature available on Win2000 and WinXP) is as good if not better than Google Desktop Search. With Microsoft planning its own desktop search tool, which is due for a beta release before the end of the year, better days are ahead.
One of the major concerns with Google Desktop Search besides privacy was Google ignoring the Mac users. None of the Google’s software releases are aimed at Apple users. Google Toolbar, Google Deskbar, GMail Notifier, and now Google Desktop Search all are Windows only. Google now plans to start making amends to this trend. Google chief executive Eric Schmidt said on Friday that they are considering making Desktop Search tool for Mac. Considering Windows and Mac file systems are very different, they would have to start from scratch. But they intend to come out with a tool for Mac users soon.
Apple owners would be rejoiced with this news even though Apple’s Mac OS already has better inbuilt tools for searching. But more tools and better options have never harmed anyone! Moreover, Google’s share price is doing so well in the market that it has almost reached double the original price since its launch.
