All editions of Vista to ship on a single DVD release

Software giant Microsoft has confirmed that they would be shipping all the editions of their upcoming Vista operating system on a single DVD release. This would make it easier for them to ship the software package and customers would find it convenient to upgrade to different options available to him.

Until now, Microsoft had been shipping different installer disks for all the different variants of their operating system products. Vista would support “Windows Anytime Upgrade” which would help Microsoft cut costs on offering different variants to their customers.

Customers would have the option to upgrade to a higher version of Vista using the same disk they already have just by getting a new serial key.

Mike Burk, a Microsoft spokesman said in a statement: “With Windows Anytime Upgrade, the idea is to provide customers with the most convenient user experience possible by enabling them to more easily and directly upgrade to a higher edition of Windows Vista from within their current edition.”

I just hope they mean it when they say they’ll cut costs on the upgrades. With XP, I think it’s ridiculous that I have to pay $200 to upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro, when I can use the same $200 to upgrade to XP Pro from Windows 98.
