Microsoft worried that EU stipulations would make Vista insecure

Software giant Microsoft has urged to the European Commission that they do not ask them to remove features from their upcoming Vista operating system, which might compromise the security of this application.

Microsoft Vice President Erich Andersen said in a statement on this issue: “Security is a top concern for European consumers, and we hope the Commission will not require removal of these important security features in Europe.”

The EU has said in a statement that the company cannot ship the Vista OS in Europe with pre-installed programs, which might result in unfair advantage against their rivals.

EU responded by saying if Microsoft were to ship their own security applications with Vista, it would mean that consumers won’t have the same choice of choosing the best product for their requirement. It would also hamper the opportunities for their challengers.
