Microsoft adds “report abuse” button for UK users of Windows Live Messenger

Software giant Microsoft has added a new small feature to their Windows Live Messenger application.

This new feature is a ‘report abuse’ button to the chat windows that enables a user to alert the agencies that the person on the other side might be a sex offender.

However, this feature is limited to the users of Windows Live Messenger in the UK market only.

This new feature is a result of a recent partnership between Microsoft and the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Center (CEOP), an English organization focused on tackling child sex abuse. The company has however said that they have no confirmed plans to launch a similar feature for other countries.

A Microsoft spokesperson in an emailed statement: “Child safety features of this kind are not ‘one size fits all. Our markets are working with the relevant authorities in their countries to implement the most appropriate and effective solutions for them.”
