Codeweavers makes available public beta version of CrossOver Mac

Software Company Codeweavers have launched the public beta version of CrossOver Mac. This is a virtualization application, which would let the Mac users to run Windows applications without installing Windows Operating System on their machines.

This application is based on the popular open source application Wine that enables users to run Windows applications on the Linux platform.

CrossOver Mac would let the users of Mac run Windows applications and some games on the Mac without having to reboot or switch to a virtual machine interface. The good news for the Mac users is that no Windows operating system license is needed in order to get CrossOver to work.

Codeweavers said in a statement that this release is in early test stages and might give a lot of problems to the beta testers. They also promise to add substantial improvements into this application before the first final is shipped to the market. This beta would work for 60 days and users can pre-order the final version for a reduced price of $39.95.

    Ummm… Crossover is not a virtualization solution. It is simply a compatability layer that provides a win32 compatable API on top of Linux or OS X. Parallels is a virtualization solution, but crossover is far from it.
