Massachusetts to stay on MS Office for now

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has now confirmed that they would continue using the Microsoft Office suite in the near future.

However, they would indeed use the OpenDocument Format for their documents starting next year by using plug-in, which would allow their workers to open and save files in this open source format.

This is good news for people with disabilities as they claimed that MS Office had better accessibility tools compared to the alternatives being considered by the state.

This is also a victory for Microsoft as they have finally managed to keep the state as their client.

The company recently said that they plan to ship a Word plug-in by December this year. Plugins for MS Excel and PowerPoint are expected to be ready by sometime next year.
