Microsoft releases beta of Windows Live Writer blog authoring tool
Software giants Microsoft have announced the availability of the first public beta of a new blog-authoring tool, Windows Live Writer.
It is available for download from the company’s website. The company said that this tool is an updated version of Onfolio Writer, a tool developed by J.J. Allaire, which was acquired by them earlier this year.
Microsoft added that Microsoft Live Writer is designed to be a WYSIWYG editing tool and it enables the blog authors to preview their posts, as it would look on the web. It supports installable plugins, which would make it easier for the users to able to add photos, screen shots, maps, video and other kinds of content to their blogs.
The tool also supports Microsoft’s Live Clipboard concept, as well as microformat content, such as calendar and events listings.
The tool is compatible with a lot of blogging platforms including Windows Live Spaces, Blogger, LiveJournal, TypePad, and Wordpress. In fact, any blogging platform using RSD (Really Simple Discoverability), Metaweblog application programming interface (API) and the Moveable Type API are supported.
