Twitter has announced that they are adding a new enhancement to their web app.

The company would shorten all links shared directly from the compose tool on Twitter.com. Twitter is of course using their own link shortening service t.co for all links shared through their website.

This feature is already enabled on their tweet button that can be embedded on third party web pages.

This feature is being rolled out to all users right now. We do not have it yet.

There is on confusion though… Would Twitter now enable the Tweet button if the content in the compose box goes above 140 characters? Would Twitter take longer links to be just 19 characters automatically?

We would find out when the feature is enabled on our accounts.

Twitter added:

Sharing links on Twitter.com is now simple and instant. Plus, since we show a shortened version of the original link, people will know which site the link points to. This service also increases security. If users click links that are reported as malicious, we direct them to a page that warns them.
