Google announces people widget for Gmail

Google has just announced a new feature for Gmail called people widget.

This is going to become a major threat to several third party services like Xobni and Rapportive.

Google would roll this feature out to Gmail users in the coming two weeks.

The feature looks a lot like Rapportive but only supports limited services. So there is no requirement to connect it with third party services.

Rapportive and Xobni are much more capable but an internal feature would make them less lucrative to new users.

We are big fans of Rapportive. We have been using it since the day we heard about it. They now face serious competition from Google itself!
