IBM Tivoli Continuous Data Protection for Files: IBM to sell Tivoli software on retail stores

US based tech giants IBM has announced that they would be selling products acquired from Tivoli software business unit through retail channels.

The company is started by offering its continuous data protection (CDP) backup and recovery software. IBM Tivoli Continuous Data Protection for Files would be sold by the company through online retailers including Circuit City, CompUSA, Office Max and Staples.

This application would cost $35 per end user and this mark the first time IBM is making the CDP software available in the retail market. IBM would allow the users to download this application via Digital River’s online software distribution service.

The company added that this process of offering applications to individual clients would not undercut its VAR and solution-provider partners because they do not target individual end users.

Chris Stakutis, CTO for IBM’s emerging storage products business and the developer of the software added on this new development: “They don’t sell to ma and pa, or even the tiny SOHOs of the world. We are not taking any bread away from them.”
