Microsoft now has a problem with PowerPoint related virus
Software giants Microsoft has confirmed that a new virus is in town which specifically target PowerPoint application in their MS Office suite.
The company has warned their customers about a new computer virus that exploits a vulnerability in its PowerPoint presentation software.
This bug can allow hackers to infiltrate the computers of the victims. The company has also posted an advisory on their website providing more details on this bug.
A user can get infected if he opens up an infected file. The bug affects PowerPoint 2000, 2002 and 2003. If the victim falls for the trap, the virus installs a keystroke logging system to capture everything typed on the machine. It also installs a backdoor and allows for all types of software to be downloaded on the computer remotely.
Microsoft is due to come out with their monthly release of patches on August 8. However, they might release a patch for this newly discovered bug early if the problem becomes more critical and widespread.
