Novell starts shipping SuSE Linux Enterprise 10

Novell has now officially started shipping their much-anticipated SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 platform. The launch was officially announced through an e-mail letter sent out by Novell CEO Ron Hovsepian.

The company has also launched the Novell Customer Center, which would act as an online resource allowing business customers to view the status of their products, subscriptions and services. They would also be able to download critical patches from this site.

Novell is also due to showcase this product at the upcoming LinuxWorld Expo in August. They would be facing competition from rivals Red Hat who are preparing to launch Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 platform later this year.

The company has launched this released in two variants. One version is targeted at mainframe servers and one at non-mainframe servers. There are three support options: basic, standard and priority.

SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop subscriptions will cost $50 per device per year, or $125 for three years.
