Microsoft Blocking MSN Messenger 7 Beta Users on Security Grounds

Microsoft was expecting Messenger 7 beta to remain under a limited test. Unfortunately, the release was leaked in public with many sites allowing anyone to download and install it. The problem occurred when a major security flaw was reported in the release. The flaw was in the newly introduced Winks feature, which enabled users to run any flash animation on other user’s messenger window.

As a result, there are even reports out there that many of the newly introduced features might not make it in the final. However, Microsoft is yet to comment on this. It is however confirmed that users on MSN Messenger 7 Beta can no longer join the messenger network and are being forced to downgrade to the more stable version 6 release.

We cannot however blame Microsoft for taking this step considering the beta was never supposed to be a public release and the security glitches are too serious to ignore. Maybe we will soon see a more stable and secure beta release in the near future that would be open to all. Microsoft sure has increased the hope of public with this leaked beta.
