China aims at spreading Chinese language with web tutorials
China has launched a new web project through which it is aiming at spreading awareness about the Chinese language.
The project is hosted on www.linese.com and it is offering free Chinese lessons and materials. The government aims to promote the study and use of the language in countries around the world.
This web-based project comes loaded with audio-visual presentations, interactive exercises. It also has special features targeted at teachers of the language. It also comes with photographs and descriptions of Chinese cultural highlights including the Great Wall of China.
China is also setting up a network of “Confucius Institutes” around the world to promote its culture and heritage. As of now, this website is only useful for Chinese and English visitors though they aim to include Japanese and Korean versions in the coming months.

I applaude China’s decision to teach Chinese online. Like it or not we are a World Community and getting along is enhanced by knowing at least some of the more popular languages and cultures. It indicates we care about other people’s welfare and not only our own. Now if we could only influence China to permit open religious worship and take their children out of the labor market and enroll them in school. That would indicate interest in their own peoples’ welfare. And long-range they would reap lasting benefits both to their culture and their world role.
