New Security holes in RealPlayer reported

Past few weeks have been nasty for software security. We have already seen security flaws reported in massively popular softwares like WinAmp and WinZip. Adding to the woes, the newly reported JPEG rendering bug in Microsoft Software can be massive implications in the coming days.

This cannot be a good time for more bugs to be reported in another popular software from the RealNetwork stables, RealPlayer. EEye Digital Security has found some new flaws in a range of RealNetwork products which can be exploited in both online and offline methods. The bugs got a ‘highly critical’ rating from the online security agency Secunia. An infected RealMedia file running from a webpage or even locally can take over the user’s system and even cause data loss.

RealNetwork claims that the bug has not yet been found in wild and has already released the patches to fix the affected software. The detailed patch page can be accessed from here: Real Security Updates
