Opera Software releases free Opera Show Generator

We have all made presentations sometime or the other. And most of us have used Microsoft PowerPoint until now. PowerPoint sure works well for what it has been developed that is offline presentations. However, today when internet has become the most important mode of sharing information, PowerPoint no longer remains the perfect tool for making presentations for web casting. PowerPoint does export slides to webpages, but they are neither standard compliant nor accessible in alternate browsers. Plus, they become obscenely heavy for online sharing.

Under these circumstances, Opera Show comes to the rescue. Opera Show is a value add-on to Opera Browser that can turn your web pages into presentations. Taking regular HTML, and adding a little magic CSS, the web page is transformed to look more like a PowerPoint document. Unlike any other browser, Opera has understood projection media CSS since Opera 6. Projection media includes the ability to define where to break between slides, and what margins the slide should have. The presentations will appear as a full presentation in Opera with a simple press of the F11 key.

In other browsers, the content is still visible as normal HTML pages. In addition, as more browsers add support for projection media CSS, all of them get supported by Opera Show. Another advantage of using Opera Show for presentations is that even PDAs and other small screen devices can access them with little visual degradation. And considering Opera is available as a free (ad supported) unlimited time period fully functional version unlike Microsoft PowerPoint, you can carry it with you along with the presentations. Even run it from a USB media stick!

Until now, making Opera Show presentation was a complex process, which either requires manual coding or downloading an application called QuickShow. To make it more accessible to people, Opera Software just released an online tool for creating presentations online. You can create a presentation in minutes that you can post on a corporate website that you can even view on a PDA. It offers control menus, keyboard activation, with a set of templates for all types of slide arrangements. And if you are longing for those PowerPoint animations, yes, it has those too, done using nothing but good old DHTML.
