MW.Orc: Google’s Orkut has worm problems
Security companies have warned that an internet worm is making rounds on the popular social networking website Orkut which is operated unofficially by the search engine giant Google.
Instant-messaging service provider FaceTime Communications has said in a statement that they have discovered the spread of the electronic virus via messages posted on Orkut users personal Web pages.
This is said to be the third such threat to disseminate itself through Orkut service, which is very popular in countries like Brazil.
FaceTime has named this worm “MW.Orc†and it gets installed on the victim’s machine when they click on infected links on Orkut scrapbook pages.
The worm infects the Windows OS powered machines and finds personal files on their PCs. This information is then sent back to the creator of MW.Orc creator along with personal information found on the victim’s machine.
