Analysts believe Google could buy a Web-based presentation application maker
Search engine giant Google might claim that they have no aims to challenge the domination of Microsoft in the office application market but they are going ahead in this direction.
The company recently acquired the developers of Writely web based application, which provides online web processor functionality. Google then launched Google Spreadsheet web application, which enables users to create spreadsheets using a browser.
Now, the market analysts believe that the company might acquire a company which develops web based presentation maker. One such example is Thumbstacks. This would somewhat fulfill their offerings of internet based office suite.
However, these products are not aimed at enterprise customers who are more likely to stick with MS Office suites considering the feature set and high integration in their office networks. Nevertheless, it does provide an alternative for regular web users and can potentially hit the user base of Microsoft Office Suite in the long run.
Not everyone requires the capabilities of software like MS Word or Excel. Google offerings provide a free alternative which they can access anywhere in the world using a browser connected to the internet.
The company also gains from the fact that their efforts are somewhat distracting Microsoft from their core businesses as the software giant is investing heavily in products aimed to compete with Google offerings.
