Mozilla to drop support for Windows 98 OS with Firefox 3.0
Mozilla Foundation is yet to release the Firefox 2 edition but the work is already going on the next edition of the Firefox web browser.
The open source foundation has now said that they would stop supporting the age-old operating systems Windows 98 and Windows ME with the release of Firefox 3 currently scheduled to ship in 2007.
This decision of the foundation was criticized by some of the users. However, the fact remains that Windows 98 is almost a decade old already and Microsoft has already stopped releasing security updates for it. And Firefox 2 would be a damn good browser for this platform for anyone still wanting to continue working with the Windows 98 operating system. Windows ME? Not many use it anyways.
Mozilla developer Gervase Markham however wanted to stop supporting the Win 98 and Win ME editions with the version 2 of the Firefox browser itself. That would have been nasty in my opinion.
