Vista Premium Laptops to have Hybrid Hard Drives

Software giants Microsoft have said that for laptops to carry the Vista Premium logo, they would require to have hybrid hard drives.

This was announced during the TechEd 2006 by Microsoft’s program manager for Windows Client Performance Matt Ayres.

He said that the inclusion of hybrid hard drives would be a requirement for mobile systems that carry the Vista Premium logo.

Vista is due to ship early next year and hybrid hard drives are still to make a mass public appearance in the market. It would be a big boost for the South Korean tech company Samsung who have pioneered this concept.

This requirement would come into effect from June 1 2007.

Seagate is another major supplier of hard disks in the market, which has confirmed their plans to offer hybrid drives for notebook computers. Samsung has already committed to make hybrid drives in high quantity.
